Video Essay

March 2018

I have learned about many ways in which technology has opened up the world of writing and publishing to new forms and experimental ways in to these forms. But there is one important lesson I've learned from all of this: nothing will ever replace the feeling of reading from a tangible book in my hands. Technology doesn't give me that crisp, intoxicating smell of a new book or the tears and antiquated smell of an old one.

For Christmas, my parents gifted me a Moleskine Smart Writing System. This set came with a smart notebook and magical pen. When I write in the book, it's transferred over to the Moleskine app on my phone, so I can access all of my notes and schedule anytime & anywhere. I can add colors and highlights to make this writing stand out; it moves beyond the black-and-white handwriting in my notebook.

For my final project, a took a video screen capture on my phone of an essay being transferred into the app as I write it in my notebook.
