Discussion Post #5
As I’ve been making my way towards the final month of my semester here at Mary Wash, I’ve been researching different journals that I can submit to when I begin searching for journals for publication of my own pieces. I’ve also been looking up how the publishing process has changed based on emerging technological trends in storytelling.
This is my anticlimactic post to say that, on the surface level, not much has changed in regards to publishing. Publishing multimedia works seems to be a pretty niche thing now because these trends are still so new. Many journals have begun including audio recordings of authors reading their works; some even have the option to submit video essays. Both well-known and smaller literary journals are expanding beyond print issues to incorporate a more broad range of voices (literally!).
Update: I’m also excited to share that I recently sent in my first submission to a journal! I’ve sent one of my nonfiction pieces to River Teeth and The Sun. I don’t expect to be accepted to either, but I’ve set my sights high.
